Two rare beer tastings on Monday

By Fritz Hahn

It's a great Monday for beer lovers.

For the first time in D.C., you'll be able to get draft beers from Cleveland's Great Lakes Brewery. Head to the Big Hunt on Monday, where you'll find free samples of three beers plus free pierogis and kielbasa.

Meanwhile, over in Arlington, Galaxy Hut is tapping a firkin of Clipper City's Loose Cannon IPA. This brew's a rarity because its hops come from Frederick's Stillpoint Farms; most beers get their hops from the Pacific Northwest.

According to Clipper City's e-mail newsletter, "We found the local Cascade hops to be fresh & floral, with green spicy characteristics and as good as, if not better than any of the Western US grown hops."

Galaxy Hut owner Lary Hoffman is tapping the firkin at 6 p.m.. A pint will cost $7; arrive early, as the firkin only holds enough for about 80 glasses.

And you didn't even mention the arrival of Bell's HopSlam at ChurchKey.

(Not enough weird capitalization in one sentence for my tastes.)

Not only were there no free samples of beer at Big Hunt, but we stayed until 9 and no food ever materialized. The staff all seemed to have no idea what we were talking about.
