Closed for business: Polly's and Posh
In end-of-an-era news, longtime U Street hangout Polly's Cafe closed for good last week. In a Facebook communique Monday, owner Cici Mukhtar told me that she'll be posting a farewell message on the bar's Web site and Facebook page within a few days, so fans can look out for that.
As Rhome and I noted in this chat, the, er, aroma inside Polly's had taken a turn for the worse in recent years. But the bar remained one of the most deliciously low-key places to grab a pint on U Street. Any good Polly's memories? Share 'em below.
Elsewhere in town, Posh Supper Club served its last meal this weekend. The downtown restaurant opened in 2006 and earned mixed reviews from diners and some harsh words from our beloved critic. "One of the roles of a critic is to help people make good investments of their time and money," wrote Tom Sietsema in his 2007 review. "In the case of Posh, I wasted mine, so you don't have to."
