Snowpocalyse now: What's not happening this weekend

As the storm approaches, we're hearing about more and more Friday and Saturday events that have been canceled or postponed or places that will be completely closed this weekend. We'll keep a running list of updates on this post, but if you're going out to a concert or to meet friends at a bar or restaurant this weekend, use common sense and call ahead to make sure that the place is open.


Major venue closings

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts will close at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. All performances scheduled for Friday and Saturday will be canceled. Public tours of the memorial will also be canceled. See the center's Web site for updates.

All Smithsonian museums (including the Zoo) will be closed on Saturday.
Update: All museums, including the Zoo, will be closed Sunday as well.
All evening activities at all Smithsonian museums will be canceled on Friday night.

The AFI Silver Theatre has canceled Friday's midnight screening of "The Secret to a Happy Ending" and will be closed on Saturday. The theater has postponed the Drive-By Truckers screenings; the new date will be announced on the theater's Web site. For refunds, e-mail silverinfo@afi.com.

At the 9:30 club, the DJ Dredd Prince vs. Madonna vs. Michael Jackson Dance Party has been rescheduled for 9 p.m. Feb. 18. Hotspur has been rescheduled for Feb. 19. Saturday's Galactic show at the 9:30 club has been rescheduled for Feb. 8.

Wolf Trap has canceled Friday's performance for Hiromi. Ticketholders will automatically receive a refund. The Jeri Sager performance has been rescheduled for 7:30 p.m. March 20. Saturday tickets will be honored for the new date. For a refund for this show, mail tickets to Wolf Trap Ticket Services 1645 Trap Rd., Vienna, VA 22182. Tickets must be received by March 1, 2010.

Friday and Saturday shows at the Birchmere have been postponed: Sonny Landreth and Tom Principato have been rescheduled for May 29. The Walter Beasley show for Saturday has been rescheduled for Feb. 20.

The National Gallery of Art will close Friday at 2 p.m. and remain closed Saturday.
Update: The museum will be closed on Sunday as well.

The Phillips Collection will close Friday at 2 p.m. and remain closed Saturday.

If you have tickets for any events at Strathmore this weekend, don't bother leaving the house -- the entire complex will be closed Friday through Sunday. The fifth anniversary celebration has been postponed until Feb. 19, and it will take place before the Monterey Jazz Festival tour. The Gato & the Palenke Music Co. show, which was to take place on Friday, has been postponed until April 9. The Take Five concerts on Saturday and Sunday have been canceled. Refunds will be forthcoming.

The National Archives will be closed all day on Saturday.

The Corcoran Gallery of Art and College of Art + Design will close Friday at 1 p.m. and remain closed through Saturday.
Update: The museum will remain closed on Sunday.

This just in from the Verizon Center (6:36 p.m. on Thursday): "The Washington Capitals and Georgetown Hoyas and Washington Wizards games scheduled for Friday, February 5 and Saturday, February 6 at Verizon Center will go on as scheduled. Due to the inclement weather expected this weekend exchange policies have been put into effect for the Georgetown vs. Villanova game on Saturday, February 6 at 12noon. and the Washington Wizards vs. Atlanta Hawks game on Saturday, February 6 at 7:00 p.m." See Web sites for updates. UPDATE (Saturday, 1:17 p.m.): Saturday's Wizards vs. Hawks game has been postponed. Patrons holding tickets for the game can hold onto those tickets and use them for the rescheduled game, which has yet to be scheduled by the NBA, or take tickets to the Verizon Center Box Office and redeem their ticket for a ticket to the Wizards vs. Minnesota Timberwolves game on Wednesday, February 17th at 7:00 pm. There will be no service charges added.

The National Geographic Museum will be closed Saturday, and the Saturday family festival has been canceled.
Update: The museum and the Terra Cotta Warriors exhibit will be closed on Sunday as well.
Ticketholders for Saturday viewings of Terra Cotta Warriors should check for updates at the museum's Web site. For schedule updates for Sunday, check that site or call 202-857-7588. Theater and Dance

Friday and Saturday's performances of "Antony and Cleopatra" at Lansburgh Theatre have been canceled.

Studio Theatre has canceled Saturday's matinee performance of "In the Red and Brown Water." The company's gala, set for Saturday night, is slated to go on as scheduled.

The Capitol Steps show Friday at the Ronald Reagan Building has been canceled. No decision has been made on the Saturday show; information about that performance will be posted on the Ronald Reagan Building information line (202-312-1555).

Friday and Saturday performances of "The Rivalry" at Ford's Theatre have been canceled.
Update: Sunday performances have been canceled as well.
While performances of "The Rivalry" at Ford's Theatre are still slated to happen as scheduled Those with tickets have the option of exchanging their seats for a later performance or requesting a refund by Feb. 11. Check the theater's Web site for updates.

The Saturday performance of "Orestes" at the Folger Theatre has been canceled. Those with tickets to the performance should contact the box office to reschedule for another date.

Howard Community College has rescheduled performances of "TempOdyssey" for Feb. 12 at 7:30 p.m. and Feb. 13 at 3 and 7:30 p.m.

Performances of "The Last Cargo Cult" at Woolly Mammoth scheduled for Friday and Saturday have been canceled. Current ticket holders may exchange tickets. Call the box office between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Friday at 202-393-3939 or email tickets@woollymammoth.net for more information.

Laurel Mill Playhouse has canceled performances for "Laughing Stock" on Friday and Saturday. The show will open Feb. 12.

The Saturday performance of Lesole Maine Dance Project at Montgomery College has been canceled.

The Doug Varone and Dancers performances at Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center have been canceled.

The Mark Morris Dance Group performances at George Mason University on Friday and Saturday have been rescheduled for Saturday, June 12. There will only be one performance instead of two.

WAM! presented by The In Series and The Washington Ballet has been canceled on Sunday.

Museums and Galleries

The National Gallery of Art will close Friday at 2 p.m. and remain closed Saturday.

Greenbelt Arts Center has postponed the 8 p.m. performance of "Planes, Trains & Automobiles" on Friday, Feb. 5.

Special events at the National Museum of American History have been canceled for Friday and Saturday. This includes the Black History Month Family Day Celebration and the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra concert.

Special programs at the Freer and Sackler galleries from Feb. 5 through 7 have been canceled.

The Washington Printmakers 25th Anniversary Reunion Show opening has been postponed until Feb. 12.

More news from the Smithsonian museums: The Washington Ballet's dance performance scheduled for Saturday at the National Museum of African Art has been canceled, and the Anacostia Community Museum's Mardi Gras celebration has been postponed until Saturday, Feb. 20.

The opening reception for the "Annual Juried Student Show" at the Washington Studio School has been rescheduled for Feb. 12 at 6 p.m.

The artist talk and opening reception for "Cut Slash Paste" at the Photoworks Gallery, Glen Echo Park, has been rescheduled for Feb. 19 at 7 p.m.

DelRay Artisans Gallery will be closed Friday through Sunday. The opening reception for Artioms has been rescheduled for 7-10 p.m. Feb. 12.

Manassas Museum has postponed its opening reception for the exhibit "Sites and Stories: African American History in Virginia" until Feb. 21.

VisArts has postponed its opening reception for "Points of Departure" until 6:30-8:30 p.m. Feb. 9.

Susan Callaway Fine Arts has moved its opening reception for Here and There" to 6-8 p.m. Feb. 12.

The First Fridays programs and Saturday morning's "Zomo the Rabbit" program at the Walters Art Museum have been canceled.

Saturday's Yinka Shonibare-inspired dance performance at the National Museum of African Art has been canceled.

International Arts and Artists gallery has rescheduled its First Friday opening reception for 6-9 p.m. Feb. 10.

Bars & Clubs

DC Improv is open for Friday's 8 p.m. show with Aisha Tyler. Friday's 10:30 p.m. show and both shows on Saturday are canceled.

Comedian Todd Barry's performances at the Arlington Cinema 'N' Drafthouse have been postponed to Feb. 19-20.

Tonight's Moneytown at Dahlak will not be happening.

Tonight's We Fought the Big One at Marx Cafe is canceled.

Saturday's Big Bad City DJ night at Velvet Lounge has been canceled.

Music

Saturday's Haiti benefit show at the Black Cat has been rescheduled for Feb. 24. The Red Room bar will be open at 8 p.m.

Evan Dando's Saturday night show at Iota has been canceled.

Rattler's Saturday night concert at the Rock and Rolll hotel has been postponed.

Greg Laswell's Saturday night show at DC 9 has been postponed. The new date is Saturday, Feb. 13.

The YES performance scheduled for Saturday at Warner Theatre has been postponed due to the inclement weather until February 15. All tickets for the February 6 show are valid for the rescheduled February 15 performance.

The National Zoo has rescheduled the Wild Side Stage's Sunday performances of DinoRock for March 14. Tickets will be honored for the new date, or ticket holders can request a refund by calling 202-633-3034.

Dumbarton Concerts has rescheduled the "Two Guitars, One Journey" performance for Feb. 13.

Miscellaneous

"The Hills" star Lauren Conrad will not be signing her book "Sweet Little Lies" on Sunday at the Borders in Fairfax. The signing may be rescheduled in the near future.

Friday night's Crystal Couture fashion show has been canceled. Check the Crystal Couture Web site by 2 p.m. Saturday for the status of Saturday's events. Saturday night's Crystal Couture fashion show has been canceled as well.

The "What a Man" cooking class at DC Coast has been canceled. Contact the restaurant for more information.

Saturday performances at BlackRock Center for the Arts have been postponed. "Harriet Tubman: The Chosen One" has been rescheduled for March 13 at 1 p.m. Mary Ann Redmond's performance has been rescheduled for April 10 at 8 p.m. Hope for Haiti has been rescheduled for Feb. 13 at 7 p.m.

Saturday's black history month lecture, "African-American Heritage in Old Georgetown" at Dumbarton House with Breena Clarke is rescheduled for Feb. 13 at 1:30 p.m.

The Choc-o-lat wine and chocolate tasting at Cedar Crossing has been rescheduled for Feb. 13.

The McLean Jewelry Showcase at the McLean Community Center has been canceled.

Tudor Place's Valentine's Tea and Chocolate Workshop for Children has been rescheduled for Feb. 13 from 1:30-3 p.m.

Saturday's Black and White Ball at the Women's Club of Chevy Chase has been canceled, and organizers have not yet decided if there will be a make-up date.

Fairfax's Chocolate Lovers festival has been postponed until March 6-7.

All Smithsonian Associates events have been canceled for Friday and Saturday.
