Sustainability Lab
Are you intrigued by the idea of going local but aren't sure what to do beyond a weekly trip to the farmers market? Collect inspiration at Transformer gallery this week with Jeff Hnilicka's Sustainability Lab installation of plastic curtains scrawled with examples of sustainable community projects relating to food, art and culture. One concept: Hnilicka's own FEAST initiative in Brooklyn, a donation-based dinner that provides funding to local artists with big ideas. In conjunction with the exhibit, Hnilicka will present "10 Dance Moves for Washington, DC -- A Dance Lesson and Travelogue" on Friday, in which the artist will offer up images of Washington that lend themselves to audience dancing. Or stop by on Saturday for "Home Grown," a discussion with Hnilicka and local photographer Cynthia Connolly accompanied by food -- from local farms, of course -- music from D.C.-based musicians and work by area artists.
