Firefly Festival
There's something about spotting the first firefly of the summer season that evokes the same childlike wonder as winter's first snowfall. Want to learn more about the enchanting glowing insects? Pack a picnic and head to Arlington on Sunday for the second annual Firefly Festival at Fort C.F. Smith Park. The event promises a number of entertaining possibilities, from creating firefly-themed art and rounds of bug bingo to story time and a marshmallow roast around the campfire. Visitors can even join in on a firefly hunt; just be sure to release your catch. Naturalists also will be on hand to dole out lightning bug trivia and advice about plants that attract the bugs so you can turn your yard into a flickering wonderland.
