Coming to Hillyer: 'Puzzling (a) Space'
Those headed to Dupont's First Friday gallery walk should make a point of stopping by Hillyer Art Space for the eclectic new group show "Puzzling (a) Space." Members of the art collective Project Andini are curating the exhibition, which showcases four Asian artists -- Soun Hong, Chakraphan Rangaratna, Ding Ren and Eric De Leon Zamuco -- who have created site-specific installations of painting, mixed media and video. While Hong displays cryptic paintings depicting war, Rangaratna offers up a foil in the form of colorful geometric paintings full of whimsy. Ren, last seen tapping away on a typewriter as part of the Smithsonian's "Lists: To-Dos, Illustrated Inventories, Collected Thoughts, and Other Artists' Enumerations," presents the "Reflected Light Series" of videos, and Zamuco shows off a mixed-media installation employing everything from dog treats to soap. Those who can't make it Friday get a second chance to meet the minds behind the art; an artist talk is Saturday from 2 to 3 p.m.
