This week's free events include Uke Fest 2010, Canadian DJs at U Street Music Hall and an open rehearsal courtesy of the Shakespeare Theatre Company.

'Americans Now'
Come face to face with some of the biggest names in news, sports and entertainment over the past decade at the National Portrait Gallery. Subjects include first lady Michelle Obama, "No Country for Old Men" author Cormac McCarthy and domestic superstar turned ex-con Martha Stewart.

Last day of Summer Screenings
A summer of free, catered independent film screenings in the Renaissance Hotel's lounge ends with a selection from the Washington Jewish Film Festival.

Uke Fest 2010
The Sweater Set, Victoria Vox, the Hula Honeys, the Riders and Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer lead an all-female lineup with a diverse range of sounds, all centered on the ukulele.

Canadian DJs Keith Robertson and Dave Henderson do their eclectic remix thing, laying tribal drum beats over Weezer and transforming Chris Cornell's collaboration with Timbaland into something you might actually want to listen to. RSVP through the Facebook event page for free entry.

Poetry in the Park
Trailblazing political spoken word group the Last Poets and standout local hip-hop group Cornel West Theory are the featured acts at this sixth annual festival.

Columbia Heights Day
Live music, local artists, family activities and food make up this neighborhood celebration. The Chariots, Armchairs, Belladonna and Flex Matthews perform.

'All's Well the Ends Well' open rehearsal
The Shakespeare Theatre Company opens its doors for a free rehearsal of its upcoming production.
