What to drink tonight: Fat Tire Ale, pre-game beers and Room 11 party
Looking to cool off with a refreshing drink tonight? Here are three ideas we wholeheartedly support.
Stephen Strasburg is scheduled to take the mound for the Nationals tonight, which means Duffy's is offering its usual pre-Strasburg Miller Lite specials: $2 bottles and $10 pitchers from 4 to 7 p.m. (The pub helpfully points out that it's a block from the U Street Metro, which is only seven Green Line stops from the ballpark.)
Happy anniversary to Room 11. The Columbia Heights wine-and-cocktail bar is marking its first birthday with a party tonight. Get a celebratory glass of Cava with any purchase, and bartender/owner Dan Searing will be whipping up festive bowls of punch. (If you went to Punch Club at the Warehouse Theatre last year, you know how good these can be.)
And the Black Squirrel has brought the hard-to-find Fat Tire Ale back to D.C. for August. The much-fetishized beer is not normally sold in this area, and when the Squirrel imported a limited amount of Fat Tire in May, it sold like gangbusters. So for Fat Tire Month, the bar has purchased several dozen cases of Fat Tire, which they hope will get them through the next few weeks. If you're not a Fat Tire fan, I'd point you in the direction of the Ranger IPA and the Lips of Faith Le Fleur Misseur ale, made with wild yeast. There are fewer bottles of those beers, and if you snooze, you definitely lose.
