Getting Up Guide: Big Boi, Resurrection Dance Theater of Haiti
What are your plans tonight? The Getting Up Guide is here to help you answer that question. Here's what's happening Tuesday:
As if being one-half of OutKast isn't reason enough to catch Big Boi at the 9:30 Club, here's another: His long-awaited solo album, "Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty," dropped in early July and quickly reinforced the notion that he is every bit the creative equal of his more critically-acclaimed partner, the more eclectic (and enigmatic) Andre 3000. The player's ball starts playing from far and wide -- or at least in Northwest D.C. -- at 7 p.m.
Resurrection Dance Theater of Haiti
After January's catastrophic earthquake, the humanitarian situation in Haiti, particularly for the country's most vulnerable citizens, remains desperate. You can help by attending a performance by Resurrection Dance Theater of Haiti, a rhythmic drum and dance troupe composed of former child slaves and orphans. Proceeds from the 7:30 p.m. performance at the Round House Theatre in Silver Spring benefit the reconstruction of two orphanages.
Circle Mirror Transformation
Studio Theatre kicks off its season with the Washington premiere of Annie Baker's play about an amateur acting class in small-town Vermont at 8 p.m. in the Mead Theatre. And as a bonus, there will be a pay-what-you-can performance Saturday at 2 p.m.
