Getting Up Guide: Grapes with the Apes; Caribou
What are your plans tonight? The Getting Up Guide is here to help you answer that question. Here's what's happening Thursday:
Grapes with the Apes
Where else can you pair wine from vineyards across Maryland and Virginia with primates? The National Zoo, of course. Wineries including Barefoot Bubbly, Philip Carter Winery, Veritas Vineyard & Winery and Willowcroft Farm Vineyards pour samples while you enjoy the naturalistic ambience from 6 to 9 p.m.
Caribou
To most people, the dual passions of Dan Snaith would seem to be completely at odds. He's the mastermind behind Caribou, whose 2010 album, "Swim," combines the kaleidoscopic, psychedelic pop explorations of his 2007 breakout, "Andorra," with a more electronic, beat-driven sound that's as much about getting feet moving as heads spinning. Her performs at the Black Cat at 8 p.m.
Lewis Black
Few stand-up comedians are more adept at boiling over than Lewis Black. The sarcastic, rant-prone Silver Spring native speaks -- or rather, shouts and fainger-wigs -- his mind about the issues of the day at 8 p.m. on his "In God We Rust" tour at the Warner Theatre.
