Getting Up Guide: Reyes of Comedy, the Parlotones
What are your plans tonight? The Getting Up Guide is here to help you answer that question. Here's what's happening Tuesday:
CHCI Reyes of Comedy
The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute celebrates the start of Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15) with an evening comedy at the Warner Theatre hosted by Wilmer Valderrama of "That '70s Show." Five comedians take the stage starting at 7:30 p.m., including Alex Reymundo, Debi Gutierrez and Felipe Esparza.
'Soul Power' and 'Duke Ellington's Washington'
The U Street Movie Series closes out with a twin bill of "Soul Power," a documentary about the famous concert staged in Zaire in 1974, and "Duke Ellington's Washington," which brings to life the early years of the D.C.-born jazz legend. The films are screened on Harrison Field -- V Street between 13th and 14th streets NW -- beginning at 8:30 p.m.
The Parlotones
Can't snag tickets to the sold-out Of Montreal/Janelle Monae show at the 9:30 Club? Head down the street to DC9, where these tuneful South African pop-rockers -- who you might remember from the opening ceremonies of the 2010 World Cup -- perform with Atomic Tom at 9 p.m.
