Despite what its Web site says, Creme to remain open
Yesterday, Creme Cafe's entire Web site was replaced with a note, dated September, which announced the restaurant's closing. This was a surprise to me because I had just dined there the day before (Oct. 2), and had a perfectly nice meal in a packed house.
Well, shrimp and grits fans, put down the Xanax. According to restaurant owner Tegist Ayalew, Crème Café is not actually closing. She was taken by surprise by the announcement on the site and assured me she'll have the site fixed ASAP.
The restaurant's management team, which has been running the location for six years, was dismissed and their last day was Thursday. For the time being, Crème Café and current chef, Orlando Hitzig, will continue normal operations, although there may be changes on the horizon.
"The chef is going to stay on for now," Ayalew says. "We might make a change and go back to our original style of menu. Though it will be very similar."
Which, of course, is a far cry from shuttering its doors.
