Getting Up Guide: Carved pumpkins and colorful cocktails
What are your plans tonight? The Getting Up Guide is here to help you answer that question. Here's what's happening Wednesday:
Pumpkin Carving Contest at Helix
Love carving pumpkins but hate scooping the goop? The Helix Lounge's pumpkin carving contest, from 6 to 8 p.m., gives the first 30 would-be carvers a pre-scooped pumpkin, carving tools and two hours to fashion their scariest Jack-O-Lantern for a chance to win a free night's stay at the hotel.
Art and Cocktails
Mixologists and bartenders from five Alexandria restaurants go head to head to find out who can concoct the most artistic cocktail using a piece from the gallery as inspiration. The real winner here is you, the attendee, who gets to sample them all. Tickets to the event, which runs from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m., can be purchased in advance for $25 from the Art League.
Die Antwoord
One of the year's biggest musical curiosities - purveyors of vulgar, South African white-trash rave-rap - makes its D.C. debut at the 9:30 Club.
