Getting Up Guide: Celebrate at Maddy's; get down with John B.

By Alex Baldinger

What are your plans tonight? The Getting Up Guide is here to help you answer that question. Here's what's happening Thursday:

Curbside Cookoff
Twenty of D.C.'s most popular food trucks set up shot at CityCenterDC for two days of music, art and great eats. The events stretch from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., making it the perfect stop for an early lunch of late dinner. Participants include Red Hook Lobster Truck, DC Slices, District Taco, Eat Wonky, BBQ Bandidos, Yellow Cart, Pedro and Vinny's Burrito Cart, Curbside Cupcakes and others.

Maddy's Bar & Grille First Anniversary
Maddy's Bar & Grille has quickly become one of our favorite north-of-Dupont spots, with good beer, an atmosphere that's upscale but not fancy, and, best of all, a kitchen that turns out great miniburgers and other treats until 1 a.m. The bar celebrates its first anniversary tonight at a special party with $2 Yuenglings, $3 glasses of champagne, discounted appetizers and some deals that will remain a surprise. It all kicks off at 5.

John B.
Pick an electronic dance genre popular in the last decade and John B. has probably done some work on it. Tonight, he's visiting U Street Music Hall to spin some speaker-rattling bass tunes alongside our own Dubstep Legion of Doom and the Grime Syndicate. For fans of dubstep and other dance music with a heavy low end, this should be a no-brainer.
