Getting Up Guide: Columbus Day edition
What are your plans today? The Getting Up Guide is here to help you answer that question. Here's what's happening on this Columbus Day Monday:
Artisphere Open House
Rosslyn's brand new arts center holds an all-day open house with performances by local Afrofunk band Chopteeth, Ibis Chamber Ensemble, Bowen McCauley Dance and many more.
Hip Hop Dance Ambassadors
Columbus Day at Millennium Stage offers the chance to get into the groove and feel the beat when dancers from around the world, including Abraham Pari Seis from Bolivia, Min Htun from Burma and Yvonne Zinyoro from Zimbabwe, show off their moves.
Gorillaz
As Damon Albarn's cartoon band embarks on its first world tour, in support of 2010's "Plastic Beach," it's ditching the cartoon character facade, and for good reason: Joining ex-Blur frontman Albarn are Clash veterans Paul Simonon and Mick Jones, additions that should give the band's swirling, morose compositions an extra kick.
