Getting Up Guide: Sasha Cooke; Fountains of Wayne
What are your plans tonight? The Getting Up Guide is here to help you answer that question. Here's what's happening Monday:
Sasha Cooke
Hear the vocal stylings of the recipient of this year's Marian Anderson Award, bestowed every other year on a mid-career singer. Sasha Cooke, a mezzo-soprano who starred as Kitty Oppenheimer in the Metropolitan Opera's "Doctor Atomic," will be accompanied by classical guitarist Jason Vieaux. Best of all? It's free. You can check out other free and easy events here.
Harold Ford Jr.
The former five-term U.S. congressman from Tennessee discusses and signs his new memoir, "More Davids Than Goliaths: A Political Education," at Politics & Prose.
Fountains of Wayne The power poppers who got everybody singing about Stacy's Mom hit the stage for the first of two nights at Birchmere tonight. This time they come armed with a song about trekking down I-95, which features a shout-out 'Virginia is for Lovers' merchandise, off the aptly titled album Traffic and Weather. Given the weather outside right now, who can't relate to a title like that?
