Getting Up Guide: Amiri Baraka speaks; Wizards home opener

By Alex Baldinger

What are your plans tonight? The Getting Up Guide is here to help you answer that question. Here's what's happening Tuesday:

Amiri Baraka
The poet and writer, author of "Digging: The Afro-American Soul of American Classical Music" and the poetry collections "Somebody Blew Up America" and "Un Poco Low Coup," discusses his work in conversation with Howard University professor Tony Medina. A book signing follows at Busboys & Poets on 14th Street.

John Wall's NBA Debut

Probably, anyway. The No. 1 overall pick in the NBA draft picked up a minor injury over the weekend but should still be available to make his Verizon Center debut Vwhen the Washington Wizards host the Philadelphia 76ers at 7 p.m. Here's hoping his career in Washington is better than the last player the Wizards chose first overall, Kwame Brown, in 2001.

Masaki Batoh
The guitarist for Japanese psych-rock stalwarts Ghost is an inventive and virtuosic player who can create sounds equally jarring and tranquil. He plays the Velvet Lounge at 9 p.m.
