Getting Up Guide: Torpedo Factory art night; Reel Journalism
What are your plans tonight? The Getting Up Guide is here to help you answer that question. Here's what's happening Thursday:
Second Thursday Art Night
Hoping to have some fun while finishing up (or just beginning) your holiday shopping? Look no further than the Torpedo Factory, which stays open late for shoppers to peruse the galleries while tasting chocolates and sipping sparkling wine.
Reel Journalism: The Pelican Brief
The Newseum's monthly movie-and-discussion series, hosted by Nick Clooney, returns with a screening of the 1993 film in which Denzel Washington plays a dogged reporter trying to surface a blockbuster story about the deaths of two Supreme Court justices. Julia Roberts co-stars in the film, which begins at 7 p.m.
Buke & Gass
Arone Dyler and Aron Sanchez's band is named after the instruments it favors, a pair of homemade creations -- a six-string baritone ukulele and guitar-bass hybrid. The two also bang and stomp on stuff to create percussion, but there's as much care given to songwriting as they deftly shift from pretty folk songs to thumping rockers. Talk Normal and Hammer No More the Fingers round out the solid bill at Rock & Roll Hotel.
