Something for the Weekend: Bars open on Christmas Day

On Christmas Day, the majority of bars and restaurants are closed to allow employees to spend time with their families. But if you don't celebrate Christmas, or if you're in town for the holiday, it can seem a bit unfair. But all is not lost: Some bars are open for business this weekend, though not all on their usual schedules. If your favorite neighborhood spot isn't listed here, make sure you call before heading out.

We'll be adding to this list as we hear from more bars and restaurants.


Arlington Cinema 'N' Drafthouse - Open as usual.

Asylum - Open at 8 p.m.

Bar 7 - Open at 10 p.m. Free until 11 with RSVP tp rsvp@suite202dc.com.

The Black Cat - Doors open at 9:30 for the final Mousetrap Britpop night (mainstage) and the James Brown Death-Mas Bash (back stage).

The Black Squirrel - Open at 7 p.m.

Blue Banana - Open at 8 p.m., with half-price drinks until 10.

Bourbon - Adams Morgan location open at 9 p.m.; Glover Park location is closed.

Bourbon Steak - Open as usual.

Breadsoda - Open at 6 p.m.

The Comedy Spot - Open for ComedySportz at 8 p.m.

Duffy's - Open at 8 p.m., serving free wings with any beer purchase between 8 and 9.

Eighteenth Street Lounge - Open at 9:30 p.m.

Freddie's Beach Bar - Open from noon to 2 a.m.

Galaxy Hut - Open at 7 p.m.

H Street Country Club - Open as usual.

Ibiza - Hot 99.5 FM's Saturday Night Hookup presents DJ Chris Styles at an 18-and-older party. Free guestlist spots available from www.ibizadc.com.

Jimmy Valentine's Lonely Hearts Club - Open as usual with the Push DJs spinning deep house.

JV's Restaurant - Open at 6 p.m. Alt-country band Honky Tonk Confidential performs at 8.

La Fontaine Bleue - "The Christmas Night Ball" features go-go by Rare Essence, Suttle Thoughts, Lissen Band, Vybe and Bela Donna, starting at 9 p.m. $25 in advance from DTLR and Shooters Sports.

Love - Open at 9 p.m. to everyone 18 and older with no cover all night with an RSVP to rsvp@lovetheclub.com.

Little Miss Whiskey's Golder Dollar - Open as usual, with an Ugly Sweater Contest. The winner, the bar says, receives "beaucoup discounts on liquor. If it's ugly enough they drink free."

Meridian Pint - Open at 8 p.m.

Murphy's of Alexandria - Open at 5 p.m., with live music by Rocky Guttman and Ronan Kavanagh.

Murphy's of D.C. - Open at 5 p.m.

Muse Lounge - Open at 9 p.m. for the Gefilte Fish Gala, with DJs, kosher pizza and plenty of singles. $5 cover goes to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Nellie's Sports Bar - Open at 5 p.m. for a Christmas party with DJ Wesley D.

The Park at 14th - Open at 9 p.m. with free cocktails from 9 to 10 and music spun by DJ Quicksilva and DJ Hostility.

The Pug - Open at 9 p.m.

Rock and Roll Hotel - Open at 9 p.m. with DJs the Metaphysical and Dok Rok spinning in the bar for free.

Town Danceboutique - Open at 10 p.m. for DJs and the usual drag show. The cover charge - $8 before 11 and $12 after - includes one free drink.

Tuscana Lounge - Open at 10 p.m. with an open bar until 11 p.m. and free hors d'oeuvres until midnight, plus hip-hop DJs.

Union Jack's - Both the Bethesda and Ballston locations open at 6 p.m.
