Getting Up Guide: Battle of the Beers tonight at Bourbon
How to start a fight among a group of hipsters: Say, "Which would you rather have -- a can of PBR or a can of Natty Boh?" It's an interesting litmus test: The ones from Maryland will defend National Bohemian, once the symbol of Baltimore. (It's now made in North Carolina.) Midwesterners and Brooklynites will probably go for PBR, since it's more famous nationally. But which cheap canned beer do D.C. barflies prefer?
We'll find out tonight at Bourbon when the bar hosts Natty Boh vs. PBR -- a cheap-beer smackdown for the ages -- or at least a Monday night. From 7 to 10, cans of each sell for $3, and the kitchen serves free corn dogs and beer reps hand out free swag. (The bar's also serving $4 Jim Beam Rye shots if you want a DIY boilermaker.)
Here's the kicker: When you're done with your beer, don't crush the can or just toss it away. Bourbon's staff will be making beer can pyramids with the empties, and the brand that has the bigger stack will be crowned the winner.
Also, as a word of warning: Random cans will have special stickers on the bottoms. Show it to your bartender and you'll get a prize, you lucky dog.
