Getting Up Guide: Gary Williams goes live at Caddie's
It's time to get out of the post-New Year's doldrums. Here's what's happening in the area tonight:
Exposed: The Polaroid Retrospective opening party
Long before apps like Hipstamatic made anyone with a smartphone a self-styled retro portraitist, folk produced their artsy pics the old-fashioned way: with a Polaroid. "Exposed" gathers more than 1,000 of the instant photos snapped by local photogs for what is sure to be an exercise in nostalgia at Sova Espresso and Wine from 6:30 to 11:30 p.m.
The Gary Williams Radio Show
The University of Maryland's men's basketball coach takes to the airwaves from Caddies in Bethesda at 7 p.m. Get there early for happy hour specials, including $1 domestic drafts and $5 domestic pitchers, and stick around to ask Gary how the Terps will fare against unanimously-ranked-number-one Duke at Cameron Indoor Stadium on Sunday. (Actually, maybe it's better if you don't ask.)
The historian reads from and discusses "Colonel Roosevelt," the final volume in his trilogy on the life of President Theodore Roosevelt (the first volume won the National Book Award). A book signing follows the 7 p.m. engagement at Politics & Prose.
