Wax poetic on the cherry blossoms

Let the cherry blossoms inspire you to write. (Katherine Frey/The Washington Post)
It's nearly cherry blossom time, and we're soliciting haikus (the three-line poems that have five syllables in the first, seven in the second and five in the third) in honor of the humble Japanese bloom. Submit your odes in the comments, and they may appear in an upcoming Weekend section. Here are a couple of submissions to get you in the spirit:
Spring in the city
Blooming petals delight us
Dreams of pink and white
--Elizabeth Bosco, Washington
Pink evanescence
Alabaster monuments
Bring shimmering peace
--Howard Gofreed, Alexandria
And for full coverage, visit our special page devoted to the Cherry Blossom Festival.

Petals pink and white
Painted in impasto
On the wet sidewalk
April morning
Only shreds of pink remain
Still, the tourists stare
Cherry blossoms fade
Now in neighborhood gardens
Upturned bottoms bloom

1.
Enveloped in white
The trees and the pathways
Blossoms everywhere
2.
A frame of branches
Blossoms cascade downward
The people rejoice

Sunlight shines softly
Dappling the ground with pale pink
From your frail blossoms
#2
Hiding in tree boughs
Pale pink and white ensembles
Bring tidings of spring
#3
Fluttering downwards
Softly, falling in silence,
A cherry blossom
#4
Tidal Basin lined
With soft pink silk, means the end
Of freezing winter

Spring comes, sweeps away
Dank cold, then leaves behind the
First cherry blossom
