New albums from Title Tracks, Vandaveer, Deleted Scenes

Some quick bits of news about three upcoming albums by some of our favorite local acts.

-- This past weekend I saw Title Tracks perform a set heavy with songs from its upcoming album "In Blank." The band's hard-edged pop songs made "It Was Easy," one of the best of 2010 and the new one stands to improve on that debut, keeping the hooks and melodies but making them even sharper and more immediate. According to label Ernest Jenning Record Co., "In Blank" will be available in April. Expect a corresponding local album-release show.

- Alt-folk troubadour Mark Charles Heidinger has completed work on the next Vandaveer album, which will be released on April 26. There will be more elegant folk tunes with earnest lyrics and smart arrangements. Listen to new song "Concerning Past & Future Conquests" below. The band is headed to Austin for SXSW in a few weeks, and a proper tour will likely happen closer to the album's release.

- Deleted Scenes have finished work on "Young People's Church of Air," the follow-up to acclaimed debut, "Birdseed Shirt." On that album, the band managed to make slippery, catchy songs with emotional heft and a bit of humor -- not an easy combination to pull off. It made it into the Black Cat's jukebox, a high honor. The new album is another sterling collection with the same strong songwriting and more attention to texture. Expect a late-spring/early-summer release. The band was just confirmed to be playing a punk rock flea market at St. Stephen's Church on May 7.
