Rep. Tom Davis Goes To Consulting Firm
Let's file this one away in the "this is not exactly a surprise" folder.
It seems that Rep. Tom Davis(R-Va.) -- perhaps the lawmaker most active in procurement over the last decade -- is joining Deloitte Consulting. He'll be receiving more than $1 million a year.
"This is not a revolving door for me," Davis told The Post's Tim Craig. "I am basically doing what I did before I went into government."
The announcement brings back memories for Government Inc.
"Until 1991, when he was elected chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, Davis was general counsel for PRC Inc., a McLean-based technology contractor," the Post story said.
As chairman of the Government Reform Committee (since renamed the Oversight and Government Reform Committee), Davis was a well-informed, ardent advocate of "procurement reform" that gave contractors, particularly technology contractors, some of which operated in Fairfax, much latitude in how they conducted business with the government.
According to a tall stack of emails obtained by The Post, Davis and his congressional staff were in routine contact with the GSA. Other documents over the years showed that Davis also maintained close ties to the contracting community, sometimes about proposed procurement legislation.
Davis and his staff also were also close to a consulting firm started by a former private sector colleague, friend and political adviser. Davis once described the owner of the consulting firm as "a very close confidant and political ally."
That consulting firm, ICG Government, advised technology companies seeking government contracts. It also hosted seminars on procurement that featured Davis and his staff as speakers. ICG clients have appeared before Davis's committee as expert speakers. Among the employees was Davis's wife.
So.
Davis said that his role won't involve lobbying. He "will be a director helping to oversee" Deloitte's Washington office, The Post story said.
What does someone in Washington's contracting consulting community do to earn more than $1 million? Government Inc. thinks it will be interesting to find out. Any ideas? We'll be following up on this one at some point.

I questioned Mr. Davis about the possible relationship of his Committee's legal advisor to the GSA and OMB procurement director. No response - Later the Government employee was removed from employment. How much support did he provide Mr. Dennett an Mrs. Dennett inthe Interior mess?

I believe in capitalism, but it appears, Republicans have this ilk of greed and image of thievery as a Party in general. I mean a Sarah Palin who proved illiterate politically, will get a book deal of $7 to 11 million...it is just egregious, shameful. It speaks to our sensationalism and their greed with lack of discretion as leaders.I know other parties do so as well, and it is disgusting in a way.. No discretion, just this publicity of greed and no shame at all to their office and leadership.
Republicans currently wear the taint right now...they just seem so unattractive as a party, out of touch, and lack leadership.
I think as much as they shout morals and family values, they have a cancer growing inside the party called greed and corruption; it appears so obviously upsetting to me. They need to repair, repent and resurrect their party; act as leaders we can emulate; not give us this continuous need to shake our heads in disgust.
They need to rethink and re-group their image and practices.

Are morals and family values used as a smokescreen for the greedy and corrupt? It seems so to me. For the first time in my life (61 years), I voted for the Democratic Ticket to represent me in Washington in both the Legislative and Executive Branch. Hopefully, I will not be disappointed by their actions.

I fully agree with the comments of llafair1 posted on Nov. 19. Greed, corruption and show biz(my addition)have ruled the country TOO long. Hopefully with Obama we can return to basics and abide by The Constitution.

O'Harrow you are truly lucky. Tom Davis is one of your favorite whipping boys. This should give you something to ponder for a few more of your cliche laden musings. Speaking of compensation and return on investment what does a guy who purports to be a writer for the Post do to earn $125K a year? Might be interesting to follow up on this one. Any ideas?
