Hello, Saturday

If you are reading this, you probably also have an eye on ESPN’s “College GameDay.” But don’t be fooled. This weekend’s marquee match up is happening here in Blacksburg.

The meeting between No. 9 Miami (2-0, 2-0 ACC) and No. 11 Virginia Tech (2-1) will shape the direction of each team’s season.

Some have called it a must-win game. It is September, and with parity is once again rearing its head around the country, so it might be too early to start identifying must-win games. But there are few September games that could have as much impact on a team’s season than the Hurricanes-Hokies match up.

The winner will be in the driver’s seat as the team to beat in the ACC. The loser will find itself looking up and will likely have to rely on other results to shape its fate as the season progresses.

For Miami, it could keep alive its budding national title hopes. For Virginia Tech, it could re-establish the Hokies as the class of the ACC as it starts conference play; it seems like a game the Hokies need to win if they want to have a shot at their third straight ACC title.

Think I’m overselling this game? I will let the Hokies do the talking.

Charley Wiles, the defensive line coach, said, “This is an ACC championship football game.”
