Marshall-Virginia Tech Halftime Notes
The No. 14 Hokies are crushing Marshall, 35-7, at halftime. Virginia Tech has racked up 346 yards of offense, 234 on the ground. Marshall has 142 yards of offense and has punted eight times.
Here are some other notes from the first half:
-- With three touchdowns in the first half, Ryan Williams has five touchdowns in his first two collegiate games. He has 139 rushing yards. And there is more time to play in this one. His 57-yard touchdown run was the longest rushing touchdown for the Hokies since Branden Ore broke off a 70-yard touchdown against Southern Mississippi in 2006.
-- With his 64-yard punt return for a touchdown, Jayron Hosley became the 76th different player under Coach Frank Beamer to score on special teams. Beamer has coached at Virginia Tech since 1987.
-- Tight end Sam Wheeler made his first start since tearing his anterior cruciate ligament in the first quarter at Georgia Tech on Nov. 1, 2007.
-- The Thundering Herd's Darius Marshall scored on a 64-yard run in the second quarter. It was the longest against the Virginia Tech defense since Keiland Williams of Louisiana State had a 67-yard run in 2007.
