DT Graves probable vs. North Carolina
Defensive tackle John Graves, who re-injured his right ankle on Oct. 17 against Georgia Tech, was listed as probable for Virginia Tech’s meeting with North Carolina on Thursday night.
Graves, a fourth-year junior, left the game at the beginning of the second quarter and did not return after his ankle was rolled up on a chop block by a Yellow Jackets’ player in the Hokies’ 28-23 loss. Graves said the bye week following the Georgia Tech game helped his recovery.
It was not the first time Graves battled ankle problems this year. He suffered a high sprain in his right ankle against Nebraska on Sept. 19. Graves did not play against Miami on Sept. 26 and got in for a snap on a field goal block against Duke on Oct. 3.
Demetrius Taylor, a fifth-year senior, has played at defensive tackle while Graves has missed time with injuries. Taylor played in place of Graves for much of the Georgia Tech game, finishing with 10 tackles.
Reserve wide receiver Brandon Dillard, who has an ankle injury, was listed as out for a second straight game. Dillard wore a green, non-activity jersey at practice on Sunday, the only day this week that was open to reporters.
The No. 14 Hokies (5-2, 3-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) host the Tar Heels (4-3, 0-3) at Lane Stadium.
