W. Michigan off Va. Tech's 2010 schedule

Western Michigan has been moved off Virginia Tech's 2010 football schedule and will play the Hokies in Blacksburg, Va., in 2016. The Broncos are scheduled to play Notre Dame on Oct. 16, 2010.

Virginia Tech has not announced what team would fill the void in its schedule, which now has only 11 games on it.

"This has been a collaborative effort and could not have become reality without the efforts of our university staff, Notre Dame and the Mid-American Conference," Western Michigan Athletic Director Kathy Beauregard said in a statement. "Another major factor in this is the willingness of Virginia Tech Athletic Director Jim Weaver to move our contracted game at Virginia Tech from 2010 to 2016. The impact this game has on WMU is tremendous. Jim's understanding of that is due to his relationship with this university and greatly appreciated."

Weaver, who creates the Hokies' schedule, was unavailable to comment on Friday.

I, for one, am happy that this game was moved. Our other three out of conference games were East Carolina (CUSA), Boise State (WAC), and Western Michigan (MAC). I hope we replace EMich with a major conference opponent, although Boise should be a very tough game.
