Monday links
Can you believe the football regular season is over already? But the show goes on. Here are some links to start your week.
It's not a Virginia Tech-related news item, but in the fall out of the Hokies' 42-13 win Saturday over Virginia, Coach Al Groh was fired. That will make a lot of Hokies fans unhappy, who chanted "Keep Al Groh" as time ticked away on Saturday. Groh was 1-8 against Virginia Tech, and just about everyone in Scott Stadium knew it was his last game at Virginia.
That win Saturday, coupled with the losses by Clemson and North Carolina, added some clarity to the Hokies' 'bowl outlook. And I hope you like Atlanta. It sure seems like Virginia Tech is headed to the Chick-fil-A Bowl, which Heather Dinich of ESPN.com acknowledges in her weekly bowl projections. If you're keeping score at home, that would make three trips to Atlanta for the Hokies this season. While it's been a familiar place, Atlanta hasn't been a welcoming environment. The Hokies lost each of their two earlier games there, to Alabama and to Georgia Tech.
And on the hardwood, the Hokies defeated Delaware, 74-66, in overtime in the Philly Hoop Group Classic. Once again, Virginia Tech's offense looked sluggish. It could be a problem Tuesday at Iowa.
