Game day is here. Can't you feel the excitement?

As you know, the gridiron meeting has lost some of its steam as both teams have had disappointing seasons. At Maryland, the basketball season got under way Friday to provide a diversion. The Terrapins received a nice performance from some freshmen in a 89-51 win over Charleston Southern.

Indeed, Maryland fans have had a tough year. The losses. The turnovers. The lack of televised Terrapins' games. Now, as Jeff Barker writes in the Baltimore Sun, they will face another indignity: an invasion of their stadium by thousands upon thousands of Virginia Tech fans.

My colleague Eric Prisbell, who covers Maryland, makes a fearless prediction: Virginia Tech will win, 24-10.

My take: While I agree with Eric that the Terrapins uncertainty at quarterback might provide an emotional lift for a struggling offense, I'd imagine Bud Foster's defense will give whoever is under center (especially a new guy) a lot to handle. So I can't see the Terrapins moving the ball effectively against Virginia Tech. I also side with Eric in believing Virginia Tech's offense will be blah.

I'm going to take the Hokies, although I could see Maryland sticking around for a little while.
