Another Thursday, another game day. Here are your links.
In Greenville, N.C., the folks at East Carolina welcome back Virginia Tech, a team viewed as a rival. The series between the Hokies and Pirates dates back to 1956. Thursday's game marks the 15th meeting between them, with Virginia Tech leading the series, 9-5.
While the East Carolina game might seem like an odd detour from the Hokies' ACC schedule, it is the main event for the Pirates. East Carolina Athletic Director Terry Holland has crafted future schedules that include what he calls "in-season bowl games." Among the opponents are Virginia Tech (each year through 2015), West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and North Carolina State.
Of course, East Carolina defeated the Hokies last season, 27-22, on a blocked punt that was returned for a touchdown. The Pirates know that Virginia Tech will be looking for revenge Thursday in Greenville. "I’m sure they are talking about what happened last year and the things that happened last year," Coach Skip Holtz said of the Hokies. "They are studying film, and I’m sure they are going to come in here ready for a football game. There is no doubt about it.”
