Allen named ACC player of the week
Virginia Tech forward Jeff Allen on Monday was named ACC player of the week for his performance in the Hokies' wins over Virginia Military Institute on Wednesday and at Penn State on Saturday.
Allen, a junior from Washington, averaged 18 points, 11.5 rebounds and 3 assists in those games. He shot 14 of 22 (63.6 percent) from the field.
Allen had season highs with 24 points and 13 rebounds against the Keydets on Wednesday. After coming off the bench in each of the Hokies' three prior games because of foul trouble, he returned to the starting lineup and had 12 points and 10 rebounds for his third double-double of the season against the Nittany Lions on Saturday.
This is the first ACC player of the week honor of Allen's career, and the first player from Virginia Tech to be recognized with it this season. Hokies guard Malcolm Delaney was named ACC player of the week last January.
