Hokies' post play important vs. Georgia

Georgia runs its offense through the post, so it will be key for Virginia Tech to play quality interior defense and to rebound well.

That will put a spotlight on Hokies forwards Jeff Allen, J.T. Thompson and Victor Davila. Although Davila is a talented offensive player shooting 51.4 percent from the field, he has not always played with defensive grit.

"Our concern really is up front," Coach Seth Greenberg said. "Last year, they absolutely crushed us on the backboards."

Last year, in a 67-66 win over the Hokies in Athens, Georgia scored 16 points off rebounds and won in the battle inside. The Bulldogs are led by 6-foot-10 forward Trey Thompkins (15 points per game) and have three other capable options in the paint.

"Extremely important for us to block out," Greenberg said. "Extremely important for us to defend the post."

Swindle out for year

Reserve center Gene Swindle underwent surgery on his right knee on Friday and will miss the remainder of the season. Swindle, a redshirt freshman, missed each of the past four games with the injury. He has played only 1 minute in his career, in a win over North Carolina Greensboro on Nov. 17.
