Delaney a finalist for Cousy Award
Virginia Tech guard Malcolm Delaney has been name one of 20 candidates for the Cousy Award list. He is a finalist for the award, given to the nation's top point guard, after an original list of 72 players was narrowed to 20 candidates.
Delaney, a junior, is leading scorer in the ACC (19.8 points per game) and was a preseason all-conference selection by reporters.
But as the Hokies (12-1) approach the start of their ACC schedule at North Carolina on Sunday, Delaney's status is uncertain. Delaney, the Hokies' best player, sat out Virginia Tech's win over Seton Hall on Saturday and is rehabilitating a sprained left ankle suffered on Dec. 30.
The list of candidates for the award will be trimmed to 10 on Feb. 1, and then five by March 1. A Hall of Fame-appointed screening committee will be narrowing the candidates. The award will be presented April 5 in Indianapolis as part of the NCAA Final Four weekend.
