Virginia Tech football schedule released

Although Virginia Tech's season-opening meeting with Boise State was made official earlier this week, the remainder of the Hokies' 2010 football schedule was announced on Thursday with a promising set up for perhaps their most difficult conference game.

Virginia Tech's bye week falls before it hosts Georgia Tech on Nov. 4, a Thursday night meeting of two teams that should be near the top of the Atlantic Coast Conference. The extra time off will be important for the Hokies as they prepare for Coach Paul Johnson's spread-option offense, which is difficult to scheme against with only a week of preparation. The Yellow Jackets, the defending ACC champions, also have a bye week before playing Virginia Tech.

The game against Georgia Tech highlights slate that includes seven games in Blacksburg. The Hokies have seemingly difficult back-to-back road games toward the end of the season, when they play at North Carolina on Nov. 13 and at Miami on Nov. 20.

Virginia Tech plays three nonconference opponents at Lane Stadium: James Madison on Sept. 11, East Carolina on Sept. 18 and Central Michigan on Oct. 9. The Hokies open the year against Boise State on Jan. 6 at FedEx Field; they will have only four days to prepare for the meeting with division I-AA James Madison after the Boise State game.

Sept. 11, James Madison
Sept. 18, East Carolina
Sept. 25, at Boston College

Oct. 16, Wake Forest
Oct. 23, Duke
Nov. 4, Georgia Tech
