Wake Forest's Ish Smith apologizes to Hokies
After Virginia Tech's win over Wake Forest on Tuesday, Demon Deacons guard Ishmael Smith left the court without shaking hands with any of the Hokies' players or coaches. But Smith called Virginia Tech Coach Seth Greenberg on Wednesday to apologize.
In the moments following the loss, Smith said he was near the tunnel at Cassell Coliseum. Frustrated by the road loss and looking for a way out, Smith walked out of the tunnel after the buzzer sounded and did not get in line to shake hands with Virginia Tech.
Wake Forest Coach Dino Gaudio told reporters that Smith asked for Greenberg's number the following day and made the apology without being asked to do so.
"I give credit for Virginia Tech. You know how much respect I have for Coach Greenberg," Smith said. "But like I said, it was a tough loss. I kind of felt bad about the whole situation without shaking any of the guys' hands. But I called Coach Greenberg and apologized."
