Virginia Tech prepares to host N.C. State

It's Tuesday in Blacksburg, and it's a big week for Virginia Tech. Here's some morning links.

The Hokies host North Carolina State on Wednesday. The Wolfpack are coming off a win at Miami on Saturday in which Tracy Smith and Javier Gonzalez led with 19 points.

N.C. State is simply hoping for an berth into the National Invitation Tournament. "I think it would be great for our team," Coach Sidney Lowe said. "From a standpoint, you know what, your continued hard work and continued great attitude has paid off and you're going to continue to play."

Preston Williams of The Washington Post reports that the Virginia Tech football team received an oral commitment from South County junior defensive back Ronny Vandyke at the Hokies’ junior day Saturday. He also had scholarship offers from Boston College, Syracuse, West Virginia, East Carolina and Rutgers.
