Virginia Tech baseball 'legitimately good'

Happy Thursday to you all, and hopefully you'll get some time to enjoy the Master's. It's a tradition unlike any other, you know. But now, here's some Virginia Tech reading.

First, let's start on the baseball diamond. Virginia Tech is "legitimately good," writes Aaron Fitt of Baseball America. The Hokies are ranked in the top 25, won the series in a recent three-game road trip at Florida State and could make it to a regional this season. (I plan on having more on the Hokies later.)

Okay, now, some spring football. Kyle Tucker of the Norfolk Virginian Pilot was at Virginia Tech's practice on Wednesday during the brief session that was open to reporters and he tracked the kicking competition. For a fourth consecutive season, the Hokies have to replace their kicker, so Coach Frank Beamer will have a busy spring trying to sort things out.

And finally, it's that time of year when Seth Greenberg, the basketball coach, gets Twitter happy. In the offseason, he applies a full-court press to his BlackBerry, and it's typically worth checking on. On Wednesday: "Sorry to see Oliver Purnell leave Clemson for DePaul. He is one of the good guys in coaching!"
