Stimulus Plan Helps Civil War Battlefields

The National Park Service will receive $750 million from the Department of the Interior as part of President Obama's recovery plan. Funds are to be used to restore national parks, preserve history and create jobs, according to an announcement Wednesday.

Civil War battlefields are among the recipients, including Antietam, Md., Stones River in Tennessee, and Fort Donelson, Tenn., which will receive funds to preserve headstones. Gettysburg will be able to rehabilitate the Daniel Klingle House. At Harpers Ferry, federal funds will be used to repair slate roofs on four historic buildings.
