"Gone With the Wind" turns 70

For the anniversary of the most popular movie of all time and the winner of 10 Academy Awards, "Gone With the Wind" has been repackaged as a 70th anniversary Ultimate Collector's Edition by Warner Home Video, yours for $69.92 DVD or $84.99 Blu-ray.

For many early audiences, the movie was viewed as a history of Civil War Georgia, complete with the burning of Atlanta. The movie would have a hard time gaining such acceptance today because of its stereotypical portrayal of slavery and romanticized view of the Civil War. But then it never was history. it was a movie version of a novel by Margaret Mitchell.

Bruce Dancis of McClatchy-Tribune News Service has written a good story on the movie's anniversary.
