Abraham Lincoln nominated for president
Tuesday is the 150th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's nomination for president at the Republican convention held in Chicago in 1860. Lincoln (portrayed by George Buss) will be at the Chicago Cultural Center at noon on May 18 to field questions from the audience during a mock news conference with Chicago Tribune reporter Eric Zorn playing the interviewer.
The free event will include a discussion on Lincoln as a candidate by historian Robert J. Lenz, president of the Abraham Lincoln Society, and a display of some original artifacts from the convention, including the delegate tally sheets. The anniversary celebration is sponsored by the city of Chicago and the Abraham Lincoln Book Shop.
