Who's Got Band? by Margaret Parker
Behind every great school is a great band. Anacostia High is no exception. The director of this band is Keith Killgo. A talented musician in his own right, Mr. Killgo has organized a band of over 50 students. Over the past couple of months this band has been consistently practicing for homecoming.
Several sections make up the organization of the entire band. These sections are the banner carriers, the majorettes, the dancers, the drummers, and the flag girls. The band has been practicing rigorously for homecoming. The practices were held every day after school from 3:30 until 6:30. During practice, they consistently went over their routines for homecoming.
The band prepared several routines that would take place throughout homecoming week. On Thursday, the band will perform at the pep rally. This will be the bands first time being introduced to the school as the representing band for Anacostia. Friday the band will perform their first actual parade. Following the parade the band will perform at the homecoming game, which will be their last performance for homecoming.
In addition to putting on a great show for homecoming, the band has other major goals to achieve. Becoming fully functional in another one of their main goals. Which includes adding other musical instruments. The band also plans to perform in upcoming parades and competitions. To bring back the Anacostia pride at Anacostia is another goal. The overall major goal is to bring the music back to Anacostia.
Anacostia's band, after only a couple months of practice, has made a fantastic come back from years of absence. Now awesome things can be expected of not only of Anacostia's band but the school as a whole. Anacostia is now in the process of restoring the respect and pride back to the school and the community.
