Debate Team Wins City Championship

By Joseph Durant

The Debate team has swept through and come out on top, winning the DC Debate City Championship. This makes McKinley the top debate school in the city. This is only second year the debate team has been in existence. Last year, their first year, they came in third place.

Another highlight this year was when they came in third place out of 150 schools that competed in the Baltimore Invitational Competition.

"Hard work and dedication is the root of our success," said Keisha Blackmore, a sophomore who has debated since last year.

All in all, the team has a definite sense of assurance during debates.

"My students deserve all the credit. They go into the ring and win the trophies," said Mr. Roberts, the coach of the McKinley debate program.

Mr. Roberts urges anyone who might be interested to sign-up for the upcoming year, for it will be "very interesting."
