First Prom a Great Success

By Adrieanna Crocker

McKinley Tech finally has celebrated their first prom. The prom was held at the J.W. Marriot Hotel on 13th street from 8:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. There were so many people in wonderful, unique and colorful dresses. Many boys wore tuxes that matched their dates.

When students first entered the ballroom, they spoke on camera, saying anything they wanted about their days at McKinley. The film was shown during senior awards night.

The music was a mixture of R&B, old school music for the "old folks," hip-hop, and go-go. Around 9:00 p.m., the DJ put on the Cha Cha Slide. That was the song that got a lot of people up and dancing.

"I can't believe I had to do six hops in heels to the cha cha slide," said 11th grader Evangela Mackie.

They played a lot of old go-go songs and a range of new ones. The students stayed on the dance floor dancing any which way and enjoying themselves.

The Prom King was 2007 class president William Simmons and the prom Queen was Shallease Taylor.

As the night came to a close, everyone took some more pictures and went to the front of the hotel to catch their ride. There were a couple of after prom parties going on, and a lot of people went to IHOP.
Students have posted pictures on Myspace and Facebook to show what a wonderful time they had. The night is over but the memories will last forever.

Congratulations to the seniors! Thanks to the newspaper staff for letting fellow high school journalists and readers know the many things going on at Mckinley Tech. I, as well as many others, look forward to reading more stories on this site next school year. Oops, I may have spoken too soon. Will there be a story about graduation, too?

Go Wire Staff! This blog is so awesome. It feels like a more up to date feed than the quarterly newspaper version. What a great opportunity to get published.

Thanks to the Washington Post for helping our city schools stay on the cutting edge of communication technology.
