Stangs Can't Miss: Preview of Men's Basketball Team

The squeaking shoes on the hardwood floors, the rim rocking after a serious dunk, and every player feeding off the energy from the crowd -- it's that time of the year when the Bishop McNamara Varsity Boys basketball team can show off how hard they have been working during the off-season. Coach Martin Keithline is in his 7th year. Senior leadership is coming from North Carolina A&T-bound Marc Hill and experienced seniors Mike Walker, Daran Adams, Alonzo Cooke, Rashad Rich, and Mike Halloway, who all just came off a very successful football season and plan to take their winning attitude to the hardwood.
The Stangs opened their season December 1 with a nail-biter that had to be sorted out in overtime with the Stangs win, 78 to 69, featuring impressive performances from junior standouts Trask Ivey, Talib Zanna, and sharp shooter Rashad Whack. Two days later the Stangs had a show-down with conference opponent PVI, a team that many picked to be a stand-out this year. The Stangs, however, showed that they were right up there with them. The game came down to the wire; with the Stangs getting back to the basics and using teamwork as the key, they were able to keep the game close, and this one wasn't won until the last second of the game. Coach Keithline drew up a play to get the ball from the baseline and get a shot at the basket, and that's just what they did. The ball was taken out by Daran Adams `08 and inbounded to Marc Hill `08. With one second to go, Hill shot a prayer from half court and it was answered, putting the Stangs at 2-0 and 1-0 in the conference play.
