Marching Band Application Deadline for Parade Is Friday
Friday is a big day for those bands that want to join the Barack Obama inaugural parade.
The application deadline for groups interested in marching in the Jan. 20 event is 5 p.m. Friday.
The Armed Forces Inaugural Committee, which collects and does an initial evaluation of the applicants, said it passes on the list to the Presidential Inaugural Committee, which makes the final parade selections.
Navy Lieut. Mike Billips, a spokesman for the armed forces committee, said applications are coming in at a rate of more than 10 an hour. So far, more than 400 have been recieved.
In 2005, 47 civilian marching bands were selected from 343 applications. Application information is available by clicking here.
It is possible that the presidential committee, which has not yet been formed, would consider an application after Friday, the military committee said. But it still urged action by Friday.
