Hotels Opening Up
Still looking for a place to stay on Inauguration Weekend?
We reported last week that there would be more hotel rooms opening up. And today, we're able to be specific. A fresh batch of several thousand hotel rooms for the upcoming presidential inauguration has become available, a District tourism official said this morning.
About 1,500 rooms inside the Beltway, and 3,000 outside the Beltway, became available last week, when advance room contracts were not signed, said William A. Hanbury, president of Destination DC, the District’s official convention and tourism corporation.
“They’re not cheap,” he said of the rooms. Rooms were averaging about $650 a night, another tourist official said last week. But “if you want them you better go after them.” Hanbury said today.
All the hotels are “holding their inventory very closely,” he said, and the newly opened rooms are not listed on travel Web sites. He recommended that people interested in lodging go to www.washington.org for information. People can also call DestinationDC at 1-800-422-8644 to find available rooms.
