King III to Speak at 'People's Inaugural' Lunch
Martin Luther King III, the son of the slain civil rights leader, has agreed to be the keynote speaker at the Stafford Foundation’s inaugural luncheon on Jan. 19, a foundation spokesman said today.
The foundation is hosting a Martin Luther King Jr. luncheon that day, the national King holiday, as part of its project to bring disadvantaged people from around the country to Washington for the Jan 20. inauguration of Barack Obama.
Virginia businessman Earl W. Stafford, whose family runs the charitable, faith-based foundation, is spending more than $1 million on the free inaugural fete for the needy at Washington’s J.W. Marriott Hotel. The foundation is seeking needy candidates to attend. Those interested can contact the foundation via inauguration@thestaffordfoundation.org or by calling 703-476-1000.
