Simon Cowell's Il Divo to Perform at Inaugural Purple Ball; Sting at Creative Coalition Ball
More headliners are committing to inauguration week performances: Il Divo, the international operatic pop group created by American Idol judge Simon Cowell, will appear at Louis Gossett Jr.'s Inaugural Purple Ball. The ball will be Jan. 20 at the Fairmont hotel.
Never heard of them? They've had several No. 1 albums in the U.K., since being put together on a U.K. talent search television show. Then again, not everyone has been impressed. From a Washington Post review of an Il Divo show at DAR Constitution Hall in 2006:
The concert was a schlocky, cloying and highly contrived display with an unvaried sound and stage act that could make any music lover turn away in embarrassment.
Meantime, the Creative Coalition has announced that Sting will headline its ball on Jan. 20 at the Harman Center of the Arts, 610 F Street, NW Washington.
