U.S. Troops to Be Involved in Inauguration
This morning, Gen. Victor E. Renuart Jr., head of the United States Northern Command, said about 11,000 troops would be involved in the inauguration, including both assisting local authorities with security and ceremonial roles, reports The Washington Post's Ann Scott Tyson.
Renuart also said the military will be on high alert, according to the Chicago Tribune. The paper reports that Renuart said the military will be ready during the inaugural "with increased air defenses, chemical attack teams and medical units," though the Defense Department is not aware of a specific threat.
